League Two round-up

Swindon missed the chance to secure promotion after losing to 1-0 to Bristol Rovers.

Swindon missed the chance to secure promotion to League One after losing to Bristol Rovers, keeping alive MK Dons' slim hopes of an automatic promotion spot.

Paul Sturrock's Swindon side had won their last three games, but a superb dipping volley from Rickie Lambert in the 27th minute was enough to lift Rovers into the play-offs.

And MK Dons' late win over Wycombe at Adams Park thanks to an 88th-minute tap-in from Gary Smith and a 92nd-minute strike from Izale McLeod means they could, mathematically at least, go up next weekend.

Wycombe were reduced to 10 men in the 25th minute when Jermaine Easter was shown a straight red.

Walsall moved to the top of the division when they beat Wrexham 1-0 at the Bescot Stadium.

Richard Money's men won the game thanks to Ishmel Demontagnac's 61st minute goal.

The result saw Hartlepool fall to second after they were beaten 2-0 by mid-table Rochdale at the Spotland Stadium.

Glenn Murray gave Keith Hill's men a shock second-minute lead, and he looked to have put his side firmly in control when he was fouled in the area in the 17th minute.

Hartlepool keeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos guessed the right way, however, and kept out Adam Rundle's spot-kick.

But the visitors were unable to find a way back into the game, and Chris Dagnall was able to profit from a 76th-minute penalty, benefiting where Rundle had failed.

Hartlepool's Richard Barker was dismissed for the handball that conceded the penalty and, in the ensuing minutes, both sides had a man sent off for violent conduct - John Doolan for Rochdale and Andy Monkhouse for Hartlepool.

At the bottom of the table, meanwhile, Accrington Stanley recorded a vital 3-2 win over Macclesfield at the Fraser Eagle Stadium to leave Paul Ince's men in big trouble.

Robbie Williams put the home side ahead in the 11th minute, but Macclesfield's John Miles levelled (29) and then put them ahead (35) with a fierce drive following a great one-two.

However, Andrew Procter (45 and 47) then claimed two goals in quick succession to leave Macclesfield just a point above the relegation zone.

It could have been worse for Macclesfield, however, as Boston remained in the relegation zone after failing to beat Torquay.

Torquay were relegated a fortnight ago and have not won in April, but Boston could only clinch a point at The Staffsmart Stadium.

Torquay were also reduced to 10 men when Lee Thorpe was dismissed in the 42nd minute for violent conduct, but they still managed to take a lead with a 49th minute goal from Lee Mansell.

Boston levelled matters in the 83rd minute through Drewe Broughton, but could not get a winner.

Mansfield could afford to celebrate a 2-1 victory over Barnet that saw them move up a place to 17th and secure their League Two status.

Barry Conlon (51) and Simon Brown (66) put Mansfield 2-0 up and, although Adam Birchall (68) pulled one back for the visitors, it was enough to give Bill Dearden's men their first win in eight games.

Chester played out a 1-1 draw with Peterborough at the Saunders Honda Stadium.

Simon Yeo (13) put Chester on course for their first win in five, but an own goal from David Artell (71) meant that run will continue.

Shrewsbury moved a step closer to securing a place in the playoffs thanks to a 1-0 win over Hereford at Edgar Street.

Midfielder Stuart Drummond's 45th-minute goal was enough to give Gary Peters' men all three points in the 12pm kick-off, leaving them in 6th place.

Darlington moved up two places to 10th after their 1-0 victory over Notts County.

A late David Rowson (82) goal was enough to take all three points from Meadow Lane.

Stockport dropped out of the playoffs after a 0-0 draw at home to Bury who are now safe from the threat of relegation.

There were also no goals in the game between Grimsby and Lincoln at Blundell Park.

Lincoln remain in 5th place, however, and are well-placed to secure a playoff spot next weekend.
