Meredith signs 18-month contract at New Meadow

Shrewsbury Town have continued their recruitment drive with the signing of young defender James Meredith. The Australian was released by Derby County last summer and has been playing in Ireland with Sligo. He has signed an 18-month contract at New Meadow and Shrews boss Gary Peters is tipping Meredith for a bright future. "He's a super young lad and I really think that he may become a real player," Peters told the club's official website.

Incentive

"He may be one for the future, but we'll see how he goes over the next few weeks. "We've got a clause in the contract that as soon as he's played five games in the first team we can renegotiate the contract so there is an incentive for him to do well quickly." Meredith will feature for Shrewsbury's reserves against Oldham Athletic on Monday, along with trialists Theo Street, Nick McCoy, Rob Davies and Franklin Anzite. Over the weekend, Peters added to his squad with the signings of Guy Madjo and Keith Briggs, who scored against Hereford on Sunday.
