Toumani Diagouraga has handed in a transfer request at Brentford which has been rejected by the Championship club, Sky sources understand.
Scottish Championship club Rangers reportedly had a bid turned down for Diagouraga last week.
The 28-year-old fueled talk of a move when he admitted at the weekend he would be "very interested" in being reunited with Rangers boss Mark Warburton after working with him at Brentford and also at Watford.
"I'm aware of Rangers' interest and I'm very flattered by it. I know they are a massive club and, of course, I'd be very interested in playing again for Mark," Diagouraga told the Scottish Sun.
"He is someone who has been a great influence on my career and I have a lot of respect for him and [assistant manager] David Weir."
The 28-year-old midfielder, who has played over 200 league appearances for the west London club since joining from Peterborough in 2010, is under contract with the Bees until the summer of 2017.
Warburton refused to confirm his interest Diagouraga when he was asked about the French midfielder following Rangers' Scottish Cup romp over Cowdenbeath on Sunday.
"I'm never going to talk about another club's players. When we conclude our business we can talk about it," said Warburton.
"Right now we have a number of targets because the nature of this game is that you have to have options one, two, three and four."
