Frank de Boer says Crystal Palace "need some extra players" this summer ahead of the start of the Premier League season.
Palace have been linked with a move for Calum Chambers from Arsenal and a deal to sign Jairo Riedewald from Ajax appears to be close, although De Boer admits the latter is not quite finished yet.
The Dutchman has already added Ruben Loftus-Cheek to his squad on a season-long loan from Chelsea but he insists that Palace need a bigger group to cope with the demands of the Premier League.
"The Premier League is a very tough league and if you want to be a very solid club you can't count on only 12 or 13 first-team players, but normally 16 or 17," he said.
"If we want to be a solid club we need some extra players."
De Boer hopes to complete the signing of Riedewald very shortly but would not comment on reports which have suggested that negotiations are ongoing with Arsenal over a move for Chambers.
"It's not 100 per cent done so we have to wait [for Riedewald]. Hopefully it is going to be a very short time," he said, before adding on Chambers: "I have nothing to say about this case."
