Kevin Wimmer has passed his medical at Stoke ahead of a £18m move from Tottenham, according to Sky sources.
Talks over personal terms have almost concluded and the deal is expected to be announced in the next 24 hours making the defender Mark Hughes' seventh major signing of the summer transfer window.
Wimmer, who said goodbye to his team-mates at Wembley on Sunday, is surplus to requirements at Tottenham following the club-record arrival of fellow defender Davinson Sanchez from Ajax.
The 24-year-old, who previously attracted interest from West Brom this summer, has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular under Pochettino.
Wimmer has made only 15 Premier League appearances since arriving from FC Koln in 2015 and is yet to feature this season.
Hughes, who watched his side draw 1-1 at West Brom on Super Sunday, has already bolstered his defensive ranks this summer with the additions of Kurt Zouma, Bruno Martins Indi and Josh Tymon.
