Sunderland are interested in signing Liverpool’s out-of-favour striker Fabio Borini, according to Sky sources.
Borini rejected a £14m move to the Stadium of Light last summer, stating at the time that he was ready to stay and fight for a place in Brendan Rodgers squad.
However, the 24-year-old Italian may now consider a move to the North-East after falling further down the Anfield pecking order following the arrival of Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Divock Origi this summer.
Sunderland are keen to bolster their attacking options after being hit with the news that winger Adam Johnson will be out for at least two months with a dislocated shoulder.
The Black Cats now find themselves short up front following the sale £9m of Connor Wickham to Crystal Palace.
Borini previously enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sunderland in the 2012/13 season where he scored seven goals in 32 appearances, including a late winner at home against Newcastle in the Tyne-Wear derby.
