Wigan have signed midfielder Alex Gilbey from Colchester for an undisclosed fee.
Gilbey, 21, Colchester's player of the year last season, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.
"Alex was one of the outstanding young talents in League One last season and we believe the next stage of his career can be fulfilled here," Wigan boss Gary Caldwell told the club's official website.
"He's exactly the sort of player and person who suits this club and we're delighted to add him to the group for pre-season."
Gilbey progressed through Colchester's youth system and made his league debut for the club in a home defeat to Oldham in December 2012.
He featured on over 120 occasions for Colchester and scored five goals in 42 appearances last season.
Wigan have completed their second summer signing after Stephen Warnock agreed to sign permanently from Derby in May following his loan spell.
