Kevin De Bruyne has undergone a medical ahead of his proposed move to Manchester City from Wolfsburg.

The 24-year-old Belgium international jetted into Manchester on Saturday morning to finalise a transfer thought to be in excess of £50m, according to Sky sources.

Wolfsburg's sporting director Klaus Allofs confirmed on Friday that an agreement had been reached between the clubs and that De Bruyne had been given permission to fly from Braunschweig airport to Manchester by private jet.

De Bruyne is understood to have bid farewell to his team-mates on Friday night before sitting in the stands to watch Wolfsburg move top of the Bundesliga with a 3-0 home win over Schalke.

And he undertook a medical exam at Wilmslow hospital at lunchtime on Saturday, bringing one of the most protracted transfer sagas of the summer towards the finishing line.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini continued to rebuff questions about De Bruyne following their 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday afternoon.

"I don't have any news," Pellegrini said at the Etihad Stadium. "You have news? I will answer the same way I answer all the questions that you or the other journalists ask me about rumours. I can't talk about rumours."

Sky Sports first reported in June that De Bruyne's representatives had received informal contact from City over a potential move to the Etihad.

Talks then began in July between the clubs but it has taken until the last week of the transfer window for an agreement to be finalised, with talks reaching their conclusion in Monaco after the Champions League draw on Thursday.

Can Kevin De Bruyne show Chelsea what they're missing at Manchester City? We take a look.

De Bruyne began his career at Genk in his home country before a £6.7m move to Chelsea in January 2012.

His spell at Stamford Bridge was ill-fated, making just three appearances in the Premier League following a loan spell back at his former club, and then he spent a year on loan at Werder Bremen in the 2012-13 season.

De Bruyne took the Bundesliga by storm last season after an £18m switch to Wolfsburg in January 2014 and he leaves the club to return to England having scored 20 goals in over 50 appearances.
