Sergio Aguero is nearing a return to Manchester City's matchday squad after resuming training following a hamstring injury.

The 27-year-old forward has missed City's last seven matches and has not played since sustaining a hamstring injury in Argentina's 2-0 defeat to Ecuador on October 8.

Aguero has not featured for City since scoring five goals in the 6-1 thrashing of Newcastle United on October 3, but took to his official Instagram page to provide an update of the progress he is making in his recovery.

"Giving it my all on recovery work. There's still more to go but getting better by the day," Aguero wrote in his post.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini said following his side's goalless draw with Aston Villa on Sunday that he hoped to have Aguero back available for the clash with Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on November 21.

"We will see in the way he [Aguero] improves this week but I think he can be [fit after the international break]. It will be easier for us to have a striker," Pellegrini said.

His return would come as a welcome boost for Pellegrini, who could be without forward Wilfried Bony for some time after the forward limped off during the first half at Villa Park with a hamstring injury.
