Rob Elliot admits to feeling frustrated at remaining Newcastle’s second choice goalkeeper behind Tim Krul and says he may seek a move away from St James' Park if the situation persists for much longer.
The Republic of Ireland international headed north from Charlton in August 2011, but has made just 12 first-team appearances since joining the Magpies.
The 28-year-old collected his second cap for the Republic of Ireland last week but is yet to dislodge Dutchman Krul from between the posts at Newcastle.
Elliot, who made just two Premier League starts last season, and none so far this campaign, said: “It’s been really tough and I’ve been a bit frustrated.
“I don’t want to just get the tag of being a No 2 keeper. You get times when you think ‘I need to play.’
“I love it at Newcastle but I want to play football. I hope it is at Newcastle but if it’s not, it’s not.
“I think after this season, depending on how many games I get, I’ll have to look at it and see what happens.”
