Newcastle left-back Massadio Haidara is facing knee surgery which will rule him out of action for four months.

Haidara will go under the knife next week to repair knee ligaments damaged in "accident" during training earlier this week.

The 22-year-old had only just returned to full training last week after suffering a groin injury while playing for the U21s at the start of the month.

"Massadio had an accident in midweek," said Magpies head coach Steve McClaren.

"It's his knee, and he's having an operation in France next week."
