Blackburn Rovers have rejected two bids from fiercest rivals Burnley for their captain Grant Hanley, Sky sources understand.

The Scotland international joined Blackburn from Rangers in 2008 as a 16-year-old and has since progressed through the club’s youth system and into the first-team, making over 150 senior appearances.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is looking to add a new centre-back to his squad before the close of the transfer window having lost Jason Shackell to Championship rivals Derby County and has identified Hanley as a major target.

Dyche, however, faces an uphill battle to convince Blackburn to sell Hanley, who was named Rovers’ captain in January 2014 following Scott Dann’s departure to Crystal Palace.

Sky sources understand Blackburn are not welcoming any offers for Hanley and are adamant the defender’s future is at Ewood Park.
