Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino has admitted the club are finding things difficult in the transfer market but insists they will not just sign any player to fill a position.

After clinching three early signings to address their defensive weaknesses, Spurs have found it difficult to add the new attacking talent they want.

Only Clinton N'Jie has arrived at White Hart Lane, while moves for Danny Ings, Anthony Martial and Timo Werner proved fruitless before the ongoing, protracted situation with West Bromich Albion over Saido Berahino.

Tottenham have had two bids of £18m and £21m rejected and are reluctant to make a third offer, and Pochettino believes the top clubs have increased market prices by spending big in the current window.

But Pochettino says he is not concerned and is prepared to wait to land the right players.

Pochettino said: "The market is always difficult and in England it is more difficult to fight with the big sides.

"Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal increase the prices of players on the market a lot, and it is difficult for another club to make signings.

"But I think our targets are different than theirs and this is why we need to be clever. Sometimes you need to settle on your philosophy. People maybe cannot see what our philosophy is, what the future of our club is.

"Sometimes you need to take a decision, sometimes you need to wait, and sometimes it is difficult for people to understand why we do not sign a player.

"But I think it is important to have the conviction that you are in a good way, and that you have the right player."

Spurs are working on a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen's wide forward Heung-Min Son, his current club's chief executive confirmed on Thursday, but he insists no deal has yet been finalised.

Michael Schade said: "We are in discussions but there hasn't been any final negotiation. The next days will show, but we will only let Son Heung-Min go when we are satisfied with the terms."
