Mauricio Pochettino says he is pleased with Vincent Janssen's reaction to his challenge to earn a place in Tottenham's side.

Pochettino said last month that the Dutchman, who has struggled since arriving for £18.6m from AZ Alkmaar last summer, needed to "show more" in training to earn a chance on matchdays.

The 22-year-old was an unused substitute during Spurs' thrashing of Stoke last weekend but Pochettino believes he has seen a change in the player's attitude.

"You need to analyse the game. For me it was a choice between (Heung-Min) Son on the bench or Vincent. We decided to replace Harry with Sonny," he said.

"I always try to be honest and fair. I am very happy with Vincent's reaction over the last few weeks and how he is training now.

"He realised the need to fight on the training ground and try to give me the trust and the confidence for after to give the possibility to play.

"I think he took a very good way now to try to fight for his place here. It is true he has a little problem in his foot."

Janssen was the subject of interest from Galatasaray in January but the player insisted he never thought about leaving and still wants to prove himself at White Hart Lane.

He has started just 10 of his 28 games for Tottenham, with only five of those starts coming in the Premier League. His four goals for the club have all come from the penalty spot.
