Tottenham have agreed a deal with Wembley that will see them play their Champions League matches at the national stadium next season.

The agreement also provides Spurs will the option to play all their Premier League and cup home matches at Wembley from the 2017-18 season.

Tottenham have begun the process of transforming White Hart Lane into a 61,000-seater stadium and will be playing in front of a reduced capacity from next season as a consequence.

They will vacate White Lane Hart for the entirety of the 2017-18 campaign to complete the work and plan to open their new stadium the following season.

"We're delighted that, through working in partnership with WNSL and the Football Association, we've been able to reach this agreement," Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy told the club's official website

"Playing at Wembley Stadium will mean that we can continue to accommodate all of our existing season ticket holders."

The current construction work of the North Stand at White Hart Lane will mean a reduction of around 4,000 seats.

Levy added: "Our season ticket waiting list is over 50,000 so this now also offers us a great opportunity to provide more of our supporters with a chance to see the team play live during our Champions League campaign.

"Importantly, as we know it was our fans' preference, it means that we can play our home matches in London during our season away."

Tottenham's north London rivals, Arsenal, played their Champions League home matches at Wembley during the 1998-99 and 1999-00 seasons.
