Liverpool may have a serious rival in the race for Virgil van Dijk, as we round up the latest rumours on Friday, August 4.
According to The Times, Chelsea are willing to offer £50m plus add-ons for the Southampton defender, who has been courted by Liverpool throughout the summer.
The report suggests Antonio Conte has been tracking the player since January and is hoping to take advantage of the poor relationship between Liverpool and Southampton to secure a deal.
Elsewhere, reports in France have linked Liverpool with Rennes player Benjamin Andre.
The Brittany based newspaper Le Telegramme claims a £15.3m offer is set to be tabled for the 26-year-old defensive midfielder.
Finally, most British newspapers are carrying quotes from manager Jurgen Klopp in which he vows to increase competition for places at Anfield - and that could leave several players unhappy.
He said: "We want to build on the same base as last year. I'm not in any doubt about that. Everybody thought: 'He's going, he's going, he's going' but so far nobody is going.
"If we stay together like this there will be a few hard decisions because they can't start all together. Then we have to see how this works.
"Be angry at me no problem but stay confident. That is important. Three days later there is another game so be there again. There will be a lot of challenges."
