Alex Teixeira has told Shakhtar Donetsk he wants to join Liverpool, according to Sky sources.
Sky sources also understand Liverpool have made a £25m bid for the Brazilian midfielder, who has attracted interest from Chelsea.
Teixeira is said to count compatriots Phillipe Coutinho and Lucas Leiva as two of his best friends in the game and would become Jurgen Klopp's second signing of the January transfer window if a deal can be completed before the February 1 deadline.
Klopp, who secured the signature of Serbia midfielder Marko Grujic earlier this month, refused to comment when asked about the potential arrival of Teixeira at Anfield last week.
Sky sources understand Teixeira's representatives are currently waiting for a response from Shakhtar as they attempt to push through a move to Liverpool.
