Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Daniel Sturridge will remain out of action for at least another 10 days.
Klopp will give the England striker as much time as he needs to recover from the hamstring injury sustained against Newcastle United last month.
Sturridge has played just 108 minutes of football since Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers in October and has missed the Merseyside club's past 11 matches in all competitions since the 2-0 defeat by the Magpies on December 6.
"Out of responsibility, we have to do everything we can to give him the physical strength to be able to play Premier League football," Klopp told the club's website.
"We all know it's pretty easy for him when he's fit, but at this moment he isn't. We cannot change this.
"To have a player like Daniel in your squad is always a good situation, and when it's not possible to use him, it's not a good situation.
"He's not with the team at the moment, that's right. But we have enough games this season when we hopefully can use him but not, if nothing happens, for at least the next 10 days.
"You can't be nearly fit, then playing, then injured again, then nearly fit, playing, injured again... we have to be patient. That's not my best skill, to be honest! But in this case I have no other choice."
Sturridge will miss Saturday's Premier League trip to Norwich City and the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Stoke City at Anfield on Tuesday.
And Klopp could also be without Adam Lallana at Carrow Road as the midfielder struggles with "a muscle problem" suffered during last weekend's defeat to Manchester United.
The manager said: "Adam Lallana is a little bit in doubt. He's here and trained yesterday, but not normal training. He had a little issue but we have to see, we have to wait until training today to see.
"It was a little bit of a muscle [problem] only in the Manchester United game. Afterwards he needed a little bit longer to recover and now we have to see if we have enough time to bring him back."
