Buffon Chelsea talk played down

Gianluigi Buffon's representatives have distanced their client from reports suggesting he is the next big-name target of Chelsea.

Reports in Italy have suggested that Juve have already started looking around for possible replacements after Roman Abramovich tabled an offer.

The Blues supremo has reportedly asked the Turin giants to name their price for their number one.

However, Paolo Fabbri and Silvano Martina - who manage the player - have poured cold water on suggestions that talks have taken place.

"That seems highly unlikely," Fabbri told skysports.com.

"It would be no surprise that Chelsea want him as he is the best but as far as we know there has been nothing."

Fabbri's partner Martina had earlier confirmed that no bid had been forthcoming.

"Buffon in the view of Chelsea? I do not have anything to confirm this, but Abramovich is accustomed to go for the maximum and you might think if he went for a goalkeeper you think Gianluigi," he said.

"But this is hypothetical."

Buffon is undoubted one of the best goalkeepers in the world and it is no surprise that he is being linked with the game's biggest spenders.

However, it remains highly unlikely that Juve would be willing to part with him - no matter how high the offer is.
