Manchester United target Leon Goretzka has confirmed he will make a decision on his Schalke future in January.
Goretzka is out of contract in the summer and would be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1.
And Sky Sports News understands Manchester United are interested in signing the German with Schalke offering him a new deal which would make him the highest paid player in the club's history.
He said: "I have to find out for myself what the next step should be.
"I have to consider a million things. I am a person who is very meticulous in such decisions. I play through all the scenarios. So I need time.
"There doesn't exist a deadline, but I think we are in the final phase.
"'The final decision will be made in January."
Goretzka joined Schalke in 2013 from Bochum and has become one of the brightest talents in European football, scoring six goals in his 12 appearances for Germany.
United may not be the only club interested in the midfielder with Bayern Munich, Juventus and Barcelona all linked with the 22-year-old.
