Louis van Gaal refuses to accept he will leave Manchester United at the end of the season after insisting it was the club who wanted him to sign a three-year deal.

The Dutchman, who replaced David Moyes at Old Trafford in 2014, said on Friday he has been involved in planning for next season despite continued speculation over his future.

United have an FA Cup final against Crystal Palace to look forward to and still harbour hopes of finishing in the top four, but with Jose Mourinho reportedly keen to take over in the summer, Van Gaal is adamant he will still be there next season because it was always the plan.

"Of course they knew it would be hard. That is why they hired me. We spoke about that at the start and we have a process of three years. I [wanted] to sign for two years, they want three years, not I," he said.

"I have signed for three years so next year you see me again!

"I am a realistic man and I only speak about facts. There are a lot of positives but now we are one position less than last year and that position is very important for the club, the most important position.

"I'm always having that positive feeling because I have done it at every club and I'm here to do that for his club."
