Tottenham are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen's attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

Sky sources understand Spurs are looking for another creative player and the 22-year-old Turkey international fits that profile.

But it is understood he is one of a number of player Spurs are looking at in that position.

Calhanoglu's agent, Bektas Demirtas, confirmed to German publication Express on Wednesday: "It is true that Tottenham have registered their interest with me."

Sky Germany claim Leverkusen's manager Roger Schmidt does not see Calhanoglu as a first-choice starter for the new Bundesliga season and the player would like to leave.

However, striker Javier Hernandez broke his hand on Tuesday and is expected to be out for at least two weeks, therefore the chances of Calhanoglu moving to another club seems unrealistic for now.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has said he hopes to sign up to three new players before the transfer deadline.
