Striker Harry Kane has urged head coach Mauricio Pochettino to stay at Tottenham.
Pochettino admitted yesterday he is ready to sign a new contract at the north London club after a hugely successful season in which they are competing with leaders Leicester City for the Premier League title.
In his pre-match news conference ahead of Spurs' home clash with Manchester United, live on Super Sunday on Sky Sports 1 HD from 12.30pm, Pochettino said "yes, why not?" when asked if he was ready to extend a contract that still has three years left to run.
And in-form striker Kane said: "He's a great manager and you want the best managers from around the world at your club.
"When you have a top manager you want them to stay around for a long time. You can see how the rest of the team has improved under him."
A string of national newspapers have reported that Pochettino is on Manchester United's potential list of candidates to succeed Louis van Gaal, should they decide to part with the Dutchman at the end of the season.
But ahead of their meeting at White Hart Lane on Sunday, Pochettino insists Van Gaal deserves respect and he is a manager he has looked up to since moving into coaching.
"I need to show respect because, when I was a player, he was a manager at Ajax and Barcelona and his background is amazing. He was one of the references as a young coach," Pochettino said.
"You always saw Van Gaal when you were a player and how he was, always helping the younger players. I think he is one of the best in the history of managers."
