Vardy, Aguero or Kane? Soccer Saturday pundits discuss Golden Boot contenders

We asked the Soccer Saturday pundits to predict who will be top goalscorer come the end of the season.

Jamie Vardy has fired Leicester to the top of the league with 13 goals in 13 games and equalled Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League games in the process.

However, the panel all doubt the 28-year-old's chances of maintaining such prolific form, with Romelu Lukaku (nine goals), Harry Kane (eight goals) and Sergio Aguero (seven goals) the other main contenders according to Sky Bet's top goalscorer odds.

Phil Thompson - Sergio Aguero

For the Premier League and indeed the whole of  the whole of the Football League, what Vardy has done is sensational. I want to see it continue and I don't see any reason why it can't. We always doubt it because he's been such a revelation. What he's done and what Leicester are achieving makes the Premier League so special. You don't get that in Italy, Germany or Spain.

I just think if he stays fully fit for the rest of the campaign, over a 38-game season, Aguero will still come out top goalscorer. He's got the quality in his locker, with the level which he's played at, to score without being presented with a clear-cut chance, as we saw with his strike against Liverpool.

In terms of value when you look at the odds and where everyone is in terms of goals and form, my money would probably be on Harry Kane. He doesn't appear to be the sort of player that gets injured much and he seems to want to play every minute of every game, which is important.

Vardy has obviously done fantastically and it would be remarkable to see him continue to be so prolific all season, while Aguero is the favourite but has so many injury problems.

Charlie Nicholas - Sergio Aguero

I do think that Vardy will hit a cold spot. If not it could be injuries but I really hope not. I also hope he stays at Leicester and he isn't tempted by money. We're talking about him because he plays every week, not because he's sat on a bench only coming on occasionally.

I do think Aguero, Kane and Giroud will start to fire them in though and have a chance, but Aguero probably has the edge and, if he stays fit, is the most likely player to end the season top of the scoring charts.

Paul Merson - Sergio Aguero

I have to go with Aguero because he only needs to play another 15 games and he can score enough in that period. We know what he's got in his locker and what he did against Newcastle when he scored five was a perfect example of what he can do to teams.

Vardy has done great but to win Golden Boot you tend to need to be scoring braces or hat-tricks. People will obviously say if he keeps scoring a goal a game then he will, which is obviously right, but that would be unbelievable for him to do with the fixtures Leicester have coming up.
