Saido Berahino's behaviour on Deadline Day was "appalling", according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.

The West Brom striker took to social media to vent his anger after club chairman Jeremy Peace turned down two late bids from Tottenham just hours before the 6pm transfer deadline on Tuesday.

As well as stating his intention never to play for West Brom again during Peace's chairmanship, Berahino said it was 'sad' he could not disclose how the club has treated him.

Redknapp told Sky Sports News HQ: "I think Berahino is a very good player, but to behave like that is appalling.

"To say you're never going to play for West Brom again. What are you going to do for six months? You've got to play some football somewhere.

"It's a ridiculous thing to say for the young man."

"People will say his position is untenable now, but I don't agree with that," he said.

"We've seen it many, many times before where the player will say 'I don't want to play for that club ever again'. They won't be building a statue of Berahino outside West Brom, but if he scores a goal against Aston Villa in a couple of weeks, I'm sure they'll be delighted with him."

Redknapp was also critical of Tottenham's handling of the deal, and believes club chairman Daniel Levy should not have left it so late in the day to try to complete the move.

"Daniel Levy obviously doesn't want to pay top dollar for him," he added. "But Tottenham have got to pay up, they've got to look big to sign him. If they want him enough they've got to pay the money Jeremy Peace wants for him.

[Levy] shouldn't be playing the game like this. Tottenham have three points so far - they should have signed Berahino at the start of the season if they wanted him that much.

"They've obviously given him a price, be it £25m, because they probably saw Raheem Sterling going for £49m to Manchester City and thought 'well, surely he must be worth at least half as much as him'.

"[Levy] shouldn't be playing the game like this. Tottenham have three points so far - they should have signed Berahino at the start of the season if they wanted him that much. Tottenham have all those draws, perhaps because they aren't scoring enough goals. He could have been the person that gave you six or seven points.

"Why Tottenham are messing around like this in the transfer window all the time, I don't know."
