Darren Bent received a helping hand from a fan's beach ball, to give Sunderland a 1-0 win over Liverpool in the 2009-10 Premier League season

This was arguably the most farcical Premier League goal ever allowed to stand and there have been several contenders.

A young Liverpool supporter had thrown a beach ball onto the pitch. It wasn't cleared and five minutes in at the Stadium of Light the impact was dramatic.

Darren Bent fired a shot in the penalty area which completely deceived Pepe Reina as it his the beach ball and deflected past the goalkeeper.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce said: “It's one of the most bizarre incidents I've ever seen in football.
