Farhad Moshiri has held discussions with representatives of Sam Allardyce about the vacant manager's position at Everton, Sky Sports News understands.
The 63-year-old, who left Crystal Palace on health grounds six months ago, is understood to want a long-term contract but the Toffees, presently, are only proposing a deal until the end of the season.
However, It is believed Moshiri has also targeted a top European coach and a Premier League manager to replace Ronald Koeman, who was sacked last month.
Sky Sports News understands that Everton are interested in speaking to the Burnley manager Sean Dyche after his impressive start to the new campaign and work building the Clarets' stability in the top flight.
Current interim manager David Unsworth is also being considered for the post but no decision is imminent and talks with the various parties are ongoing.
Unsworth has taken charge of four matches so far, including a dramatic comeback to win 3-2 at home to Watford at the weekend, after his side fell 2-0 down.
After being promoted from boss of the club's successful U23s team, Unsworth lost his opening three matches to Chelsea, Leicester and Lyon in the Europa League.
