Middlesbrough are hoping to conclude a deal to sign Cardiff defender Fabio Da Silva in the next 48 hours.

The former Manchester United full-back has only one year left on his contract at Cardiff and was left out of the Bluebirds' matchday squad for the opening day draw at Birmingham last weekend.

The 26-year-old, capped twice by Brazil, would become Middlesbrough's 10th signing of the summer and could go straight into the squad for their Premier League opener at home to Stoke on Saturday.

Fabio, who spent the 2012/13 season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, joined Cardiff in January 2014 after failing to establish himself as a first-team regular at United.

He has since made 68 appearances during his two-and-a-half years at Cardiff, scoring once in a 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough at the Riverside last season.
