Shrews boss not looking to strengthen his midfield
Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Simpson has shrugged off talk of him making a loan swoop for Swansea City midfielder Matty Collins.
The Wales Under 21 international looks set to leave the Swans on loan this month after failing to hold down a regular place this season.
However, despite stories linking the Shrews with Collins, former Preston boss Simpson says that he has no intention of strengthening his midfield, with other areas a priority.
"It must be that type of year because he isn't a name that we have talked about and I am happy with my midfield at the moment," Simpson told
skysports.com.
"It is other areas of the field that I am focusing on improving at the minute, so he definitely isn't a target for this football club.
"I am trying to add some fresh faces to the squad and I think that it is important to bring in a few to give everyone a bit of life again.
"We've been trying to bring in a defender this week after suffering the loss of Graham Coughlan, but so far that has been rather fruitless.
"We will continue to work to try and bring somebody in and hopefully that will pay off."
Experienced Irish centre-half Coughlan limped off after 10 minutes of the Shrews' 1-1 draw at Burton on Saturday and Simpson confirmed that it was a hamstring injury which will keep him out for around three weeks.
He added: "It looks like he will be out for around three weeks.
"He felt it early on and it is a big blow for us, but the lads that came in when he lost Graham did really well and hopefully they will continue to defend well and make sure that we don't miss him that much."
