Hull and QPR shared the points in a Sky Bet Championship clash which produced only occasional moments of quality.
Charlie Austin gave Rangers the lead against the run of play but Michael Dawson equalised before half-time, both goals coming from set-pieces.
Tjaronn Chery missed a glorious QPR chance in a second half that otherwise proved largely uninspiring.
Robert Green returned from suspension in goal for QPR as Alex Smithies dropped to the bench. Alejandro Faurlin replaced Daniel Tozser in midfield from the team which drew with Blackburn.
The hosts were unchanged from their excellent win at Cardiff and they could have scored inside a minute, Sone Aluko's drive blocked by Green and Mo Diame unable to control the rebound.
Tom Huddlestone shot over and Andy Robertson and Diame were just unable to pick out Aluko as Hull dominated the opening exchanges.
Matt Phillips' cross at the other end brought a miscue from Curtis Davies and a hurried punch by goalkeeper Allan McGregor but City were soon back on the attack, Diame shooting straight at Green before Abel Hernandez saw two shots with his weaker right foot blocked after a clever turn inside with his left.
Phillips sent a cross-shot over and Chery's curler was fielded by McGregor but from their next attack in the 25th minute, Rangers broke through.
Alex Bruce headed James Perch's cross behind and Chery's corner was headed home by Austin, the goal signalled by the referee's assistant despite the efforts of Robertson on the line.
Chery and Phillips were off target from distance before Hull drew level in the 37th minute as Tom Huddlestone swung in a free-kick from the left and Dawson rose to guide the ball past Green.
Bruce and Gabriele Angella headed over from corners as the half ended all square.
The second period started slowly, with Hull unable to find the right pass to Aluko or Hernandez against the visitors' high defensive line.
Chery incredibly failed to restore Rangers' lead just after the hour mark when, all alone from Phillips' low cross, he somehow sidefooted over an open goal from no more than three yards.
Hull boss Steve Bruce responded by replacing his son Alex with an extra forward in Chuba Akpom and switching to 4-4-2, Aluko and Diame moving to the wings.
The newcomer failed to pick out the unmarked Robertson as Hull broke from a QPR free-kick.
Hull substitute Ahmed Elmohamady helped instigate a move which ended with Robertson's wayward shot deflected behind - but successive Hull corners came to nothing.
Robertson pulled another effort across the face of goal and as the game entered injury time, Akpom burst through the away defence but pulled the ball back behind his team-mates in the area and the final chance was gone.
