England have been hit by another injury scare ahead of the Ashes after Jake Ball was forced to withdraw from a warm-up match against a Cricket Australia XI on Thursday.
Ball hit the ground awkwardly after bowling the fifth delivery of his fourth over during the home side's first innings.
The bowler's right ankle appeared to buckle in his delivery stride as he was bowling round the wicket to William Pucovski in the four-day game at the Adelaide Oval.
Ball was initially treated by England physio Craig de Weymarn on the pitch and was subsequently forced off the field on the second day of day-night match in South Australia.
England later confirmed that Ball had suffered a sprained ankle and would miss the rest of the day's play.
A statement on Twitter read: "Jake Ball a sprained right ankle. He won't play any further part today and will be assessed today and overnight."
England are already coping with the loss of Steven Finn, who was ruled out of the Ashes tour after tearing the cartilage in his left knee ahead of the opening warm-up game.
Surrey all-rounder Tom Curran has been called up as his replacement.
