David Haye admits the heavyweight division will "miss" Tyson Fury, but is confident the former WBO and WBA champion can make a successful return to boxing.
Fury vacated his WBA and WBO heavyweight titles on Wednesday in order to focus on his medical treatment and recovery after reportedly failing a drug test in the United States.
The 28-year-old, who has had his boxing licence suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control, recently claimed in an interview with Rolling Stone he had "done lots of cocaine" in a bid to battle depression.
Fury is also the subject of a UK Anti-Doping investigation, but Haye believes his fellow heavyweight, once fit, can return a more focused fighter and produce another "assault" on the division.
"The worst case scenario is that he gets a two-year ban," Haye told Sky Sports News HQ. "It sounds terrible, but I have just come off three and half years out of the ring, and a year later, I am in a position where I could be fighting for titles. I am healthy and fit.
"He's [Fury] had no injuries, so he's got no wear and tear, he's not been busted up or beaten up.
"Hopefully he gets a short ban, maybe six months, enough time to get his head right, get his training situation in the right place and he can then make an assault back on the heavyweight division.
"The heavyweight division will miss him."
