Carl Frampton has vowed to beat Scott Quigg in a long-awaited domestic showdown he thinks has all the makings of an all-time great British contest.

Frampton's IBF strap and Quigg's WBA title are on the line when two of the world's best super-bantamweights clash at the Manchester Arena, live on Sky Sports Box Office on February 27.

And 'The Jackal' hopes his bout with Quigg can capture the imagination of the boxing public in the same way as Barry McGuigan's successful world title challenge against Eusebio Pedroza in 1985

"Thirty years later people still talk about Barry McGuigan beating Pedroza at Loftus Road," Frampton told Sky Sports.

"And I think this is going to be one of those fights where people will say I was there the night Frampton beat Quigg.

"I think this is [a genuine British super-fight]. In a way Scott and I are lucky to have each other because we are in the lighter divisions and it's usually the big guys that get all the publicity.

"But what the boxing public see are two genuinely good fighters. They see it as a 50/50 fight but I don't. I see Scott Quigg as a good fighter but I feel that I am better than him and now I just need to go and prove it.

Frampton says the fight with Quigg was only made because he struggled in his last performance

"I have been chasing this fight for a very, very long time, since he was British champion and he wouldn't let me fight for the title. For whatever reason it hasn't happened but that's all in the past because it is happening now. It's only six weeks away and I can't wait for it."

Quigg dismantled former IBF champion Kiko Martinez in two rounds on the same night Frampton got up off the canvas twice to outpoint Alejandro Gonzalez Jr last summer.

"That's probably the only reason this fight is now happening," said Frampton.

Quigg says Frampton gets carried away in front of a big crowd and he can expose that

"Is it a coincidence that it is happening after the worst performance of my career? I got put over a couple of times in the first round and I showed what they think are vulnerabilities and that is the only reason why this fight is happening now.

"If I went out and blew Alejandro Gonzalez away in one or two rounds this fight still would not be happening. They think they have seen some weaknesses and they are going to try and exploit them but it is false hope because I know I am a better fighter than Scott and now I am going to prove it."
