Prichard Colon is still in a critical condition following surgery for bleeding on the brain after his loss to Terrel Williams in Fairfax, Virginia on Saturday night.

The promising welterweight, who was fighting on the undercard of Lamont Peterson's majority decision victory over Felix Diaz Jr, was floored twice in the ninth and then disqualified when his corner removed his gloves at the end of the round.

Colon, 23, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital in North Virginia having reportedly experienced vomiting and dizziness in his dressing room afterwards.

Promoter Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment, said in a statement: "Prichard Colon became symptomatic in his dressing room following his bout with Terrel Williams.

"Within moments, he was under the care of EMTs and was rushed to Inova Fairfax Hospital. He suffered a brain bleed as a result of an injury during the bout and underwent immediate surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. His condition remains critical.

"Prichard's family has requested that their privacy be respected at this time. Updates will be provided when appropriate. We ask that everyone join us in praying for Prichard and his family."

Promoters Premier Boxing Champions confirmed earlier on Saturday that Colon had received emergency surgery to "relieve pressure on brain injuries".

The boxer's representative, Alan Obrador, also posted a statement on Colon's official Facebook page.

He wrote: "I know you're concerned about the health of Prichard. I have just spoken with his mother and he is recovering after bleeding on the left side of his brain.

"We will keep you informed of any developments in this way. We ask for prayers for the speedy recovery of Prichard."
